PARENTING AN ADOPTED CHILD

Image
Parents have to give their child the appropriate information they need to know about their adoption as early as possible . Your child will have a strong sense of identity and understanding about who they are from a young age. And it won’t be a surprise to the child when they get older. The thing with adopted children is that they need to feel secure and loved just a bit more than other children. If they see any failure in your love towards them, they can take it and run with the idea ‘You don’t love me because I’m adopted’ or ‘I hate you and you’re not even my real mother’ … But the strategy is just to respond with love.

CHALLENGES FACED BY ADOPTED KIDS.

Image
  1. Grief, separation and loss While it may be difficult for parents to understand, most adopted children experience some feelings of grief and loss related to their adoption. They may suffer the loss of their birth parents as well as siblings, grandparents and extended family. Older children who were adopted later in life may grieve the loss of foster families, friends and familiar schools or neighborhoods. 2. Self Esteem and  identity Adoption can present some challenges for children as they work through the identity formation process, especially as adolescents. Adoptees with limited information about their birth families and the reasons their birth parents chose adoption may especially experience difficulties in identity development. Identity development issues may surface as adopted children struggle to find their place in their adoptive family.  3. Attachment issues, school challenges and other mental health challenges Children who were adopted at an older age and w...

IS ADOPTION AN EASY PROCESS?

Image
Although it costs little to adopt from foster care, the process of becoming an adoptive or foster parent can be time consuming and requires persistence. On average, it takes from six to twelve months to complete the steps necessary to be licensed to adopt or foster—including submitting an application, undergoing a home study, and attending training. While some of the steps may seem overly involved or invasive, it is important to keep in mind that everyone is working toward the same goal—ensuring the safety and well-being of children.

RECURRENT PREGNANCY LOSS AND

Image
Women who have miscarriages experience the same pain as women who are not able to have babies on their own. Experiencing a miscarriage can be very traumatic for both parents. Society underestimates how painful it is.  Pregnancy loss can happen very quickly, and it can take a while to make sense of what is happening. You will need to mentally adjust to life without the future you expected. You may grieve not just for the baby you’ve lost, but also for your sense of yourself as a parent, and your plans and hopes for the future. You will likely experience many different emotions and these might last for months or years. Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong way to grieve a lost pregnancy.

8 WAYS TO DEAL WITH INFERTILITY STRESS.

Image
  1. Give yourself a mental health check-up 2. Focus on the present 3. Practice self-care That means treating yourself even half as well as you treat your family and friends. Get enough sleep, exercise, time alone, and time. 4. Talk to yourself Give yourself a pep-talk because what we say to ourselves is powerful.  5. Talk to others 6. Focus on your work As stressful and preoccupying as fertility treatments can be, work can provide an effective distraction from the persistent anxiety you may be feeling from infertility.  7. Try cognitive restructuring 8. Check for Depression Mild depression may make you feel tired and sad. More severe depression may mean frequent crying, loss of appetite, and despair.

POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

Image
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal disorder causing large  cysts on the outer edge . If you have PCOS and your androgen levels are too high, you have higher odds for a number of complications. These can differ from woman to woman and include: Trouble getting pregnant.  Cysts in the ovaries can interfere with ovulation. That’s when one of your ovaries releases an egg each month. If a healthy egg isn’t available to be fertilized by a sperm, you can’t get pregnant. You may still be able to get pregnant  if you have PCOS. But you might have to take medicine and work with a fertility specialist to make it happen.

INFERTILITY AND MENTAL HEALTH

Image
Even though it's well known that the incidence of depression and anxiety are higher in those experiencing infertility, many are not being offered mental health resources during clinical appointments. Being aware of the impact infertility could have on your mental health and how to get support is key. "Sometimes people are blindsided, they didn't realize they were going to feel this way," Dr. Accortt says.  Do you think it's important to offer mental health resources at clinics ?

EDUCATION ABOUT INFERTILITY IN SCHOOLS.

Image
Infertility is not discussed enough in schools and it is very important that we learn about it from an early age. Children are always taught about how easy it is to get pregnant and I think it would be a good thing to also talk about what happens when it is not easy to fall pregnant .it would be easy for people to not feel bad in the future when they struggle to fall pregnant because it can happen to anyone. Do you think it's important to educate children about infertility in schools ?

INFERTILITY

Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more after  regular unprotected sexual intercourse. Many people suffer from infertility, both male and females but because of  the knowledge we lack women are often blamed for being infertile.  Infertility has a lot of negative impacts on couples but mostly women because they end up facing violence , divorce ,social stigma ,depression and low self esteem. It is very important to provide education on infertility so that couples and individuals are able to prevent it  and for those infected to get early treatment . There are many treatments and surrogacy  can also be used as alternative treatment for having a child . What impact does infertility have in our families and communities?

Surrogacy vs Adoption

For hopeful couples who can't conceive on their own, the question of surrogacy vs adoption is a pretty common one. Both can be great options for starting a family. Adoption is a legal process whereby a family permanently takes on the responsibility of raising a child when they are unable to remain with their birth parents .Surrogacy on the other hand occurs when a woman agrees to carry a baby on behalf of the couple or individual that is unable to become pregnant with their own child due to infertility or other health causes. In other cases it allows LBGTQ intended parents to build a family.  Both processes have similarities as well as differences that are important to understand and we'll learn more about those . What are your views  and which option would  be best for you?
